ABOUT THE BOOK

The animals are back! This delightful series tells the story of what happens when the animals, like many young children, don’t want to wash, eat, sleep, behave, share, go to school, take their medicine, or get vaccinated.

In Episode 2, we talk about the importance of eating. Our little readers will find that their favourite animals don’t want to eat: “No, no, no... I don’t want to eat!”... What can we do about it?

There is something special about this new book and one can only imagine how much it can benefit to so many children because of the very message it conveys about eating and food learning for children.

The book will also please all the parents who struggle with their little ones at lunch or dinner time.

• The books are geared towards children aged 2-6, before elementary/primary school.

• They will likely be bilingual children whose parents want to encourage the learning of their two current languages.

• They will also be children whose parents want to teach a language at a young age. Some teachers have also been using the books of the series as a way to teach a second language to children, with themes easy for them to both understand and memorise.

WHY SECOND GENERATION?

JNPAQUET Books Ltd had been planning a complete relaunch of the popular children’s books series for many months, in what is known as “The Book of The Animals - Second Generation”. The relaunch will see every single existing episode being updated and totally redesigned with new illustrations (and a new illustrator on board!), new texts and some fun-learning quizzes on every page! (for the bilingual books only)

This relaunch is mainly aimed at a new generation of little readers and their parents who may, or may not, know the original series, with even more children friendly illustrations and more educational stories, based on the feedback we have received from both children and parents at Author Visits and Storytelling events given in schools, playgroups and libraries across the UK, since the launch of “The Book of The Animals”, in 2008.

The “Second Generation” books of the series are still being written by the creator of the series, J.N. PAQUET, and illustrated by Award winner illustrator Lizette Duvenage. The new books will gradually be replacing the old edition with a launch every 3-4 months over the next 15 months.

LANGUAGE PROFESSIONALS' REVIEWS:

"ABRIR UK is very proud to support J.N. PAQUET's bilingual series 'The Book of the Animals'. We see in the series another means for the children to have both their languages recognized and valued. Both parents can read the same stories with the children and thus enjoy the great experience of participating in their children's literacy development. Reading together and being able to speak their own languages with their children is also a wonderful opportunity to strengthen parents-chidren's emotional links." -- Dr Ana Souza, Institute of Education, University of London (Abrir.org.uk.)

"These delightful books are very suitable both for reading to young children and for older children to use to learn to read in both languages. The repetitive structure is supportive of children learning new words and the illustrations work well alongside the text to help understanding of unfamiliar words. I can easily imagine young children demanding repeat readings and enjoying learning the text by heart as many children do with favourite stories. I think the stories would work well both in the home and in the classroom." -- Dr Raymonde Sneddon, Research Fellow, University of East London.
